Place Names
3rd February, 1938. Most of the fields in our farm are called by special names. The most outstanding names is the "Field of the Rath". This field is situated right in front of the house and gets its name from the "Rath" which is situated at the end.
In the inside of the "Rath" there is a large round flat space covered with rich green grass. Round about this there is a deep ditch, then a great bank of earth forming a large ring and then another deep ditch. This Rath was supposed to have been built by the Danes to protect themselves against the Irish.
Another field is called the "Plum - Tree Field" on account of three or four plum - trees which are growing in the hedge surrounding the field.
There are also four fields to the North side of my house(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
