  1. On Sunday night 31st October, 1920, District Inspector Kelleher of Cork was shot in Greville Arms Hotel, Granard, Co Longford
    by the ''rebels.''
    Following the shooting that night, crown forces broke loose from the barracks armed with rifles and revolvers. They paraded the town firing into houses and through windows.
    Next morning November 1st
    '' Black and Tans '' and soldiers arrived in Granard around 7.30.
    They surrounded the Church while the people were attending Mass; they frightened the people and remained in the town until the remains were removed on Wednesday. The people fled from their homes on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
    One Wednesday night the
    '' Black and Tans '' returned
    about 12.30. broke into
    houses, looted and
    burned 13 principal houses
    and remained in Granard
    until the ''Truce'' in July 1921
