- There was a band of Irish guards in London. There was an English man in control of them. The English Sergent if he caught them smoking while on duty. He would summon them to the court and get them fined two or three shillings.
One morning he saw a man standing on top of his head on a frosty morning. He summoned him to the court and charged him with it.He said I could not stand on my feet on that frosty morning, let alone stand on my head. The judge believed him and sacked the English man. He was fined twenty four shillings for telling lies.
