   The blackbird, the thrush, the wren, the robin, the lark and the swallow are the most common birds in my district. The swallow is the only one of these that migrates. When they are ready to migrate in the Autumn they all gather together in a field and stay there for about four hours, then all at once they fly away. They generally go in October.
   The robin mostly builds its nest in the hedge. The nest is made of moss and lined with feathers and hair.
   The lark builds its nest on the ground. The eggs are a pale green and speckled with brown.
   The wren builds his nest in low bushes or hedges. It is a big round nest with a small hole in it. The wren lays a great many small white eggs.
   The blackbird's nest is the same as the robin's only bigger. The eggs are a light green.
   The thrushe's nest is made of sticks lined with hardened mud. The thrushe's eggs are white and speckled.
   The small birds sit three weeks on the eggs.
   It used to be told to boys that the birds would curse them if they roobed their nests.
   The birds are good weather guides.
   The swallows fly low if rain is coming. If the crows caw loudly rain will come.
