    In the year 1840 in the month of January there came a great storm which the people have still as a landmark. They called this the "Night of the Big Wind." This storm knocked many houses and rooted up many trees. It caused great damage to the country-side. In those times the people were not as well prepared for storm as they are now. It used be súgans made from straw they had tying the thatch and very few houses were sew-thatched or slated, and that is the reason the people thought it was a great stom.
