    In former times when a girl was getting married instead of going to a church she went to the house of her bridegroom and then the priest came. It was usually in the kitchen of the bridegroom's home that the marriage cermony was performed. Then a hearty breakfast was given, consisting of bacon, cabbage and potatoes with plenty of poteen.
    Later on they came to the church on horseback, and when the couple were married the bride sat sidesaddle with her husband on his horse and raced home across the country. That Irish people also had some old proverbs with regard to marriage in which they believed such as:
    Monday for wealth,
    Tuesday for health, and
    Wednesday the best day of all;
