1. Old Forts

   There are several old raths or forts in this parish, which were suppose to be inhabited by fairies.
   In a field in Longarchard adjacent to Templetwohy there is a big circular Rath surrounded by a high bank or mound. One the top of the mound there are big beech trees which meet overhead, and completely enclose the rath from the outside world. To stand alone in the daylight one would get a nervous chill, as on all sides the light of the day is obscured, and it is only when one looks overhead that the welcome canopy of heaven can be seen.
   An idea dwelling for faries
   Yes, this is how the story goes :-
   Near the fort is the ruins
   of an old house, built by a
   herd who used to be minding sheep
   in a field where the fort is.
   One night approaching midnight
   the herd went out to have a look at
