- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)used to carry turf for the fire out of the bog. There was a national school built in the year 1868 and then the hedge schools were no longer needed.
- The first school here was a protestant school. The poor Catholics used to go there. People that used to be able to pay for their children sent them to a country house where a learned man was teaching. The first school established here was over at the old court house and a teacher names Miss Mac Donnell from Glenanaar taught the girls. The boys school was over at the old market house and a man named Patrick Ryan was teaching them. There was no school at Ballyorgan that time and when the chapel was built about 74 years ago they turned the old thatched chapel(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
