- The local fairs are held in the principle towns of Ireland. Buyers used often buy at cross roads and at farmers houses where there were thorough-bred cattle. This is not done now. The fair is held in the street in some towns and in other places there are fair fields. In all the principal fairs tolls are paid on cattle and pigs. They're paid to a gentleman named a “baron of the fair. Threepence is paid on young cattle and sixpence on aged cattle. The tolls are generally paid by the purchaser. Luck money is given in all cases. There's a difference in the amount of luck money given in parts of this country. It is calculated more or less according to the age of the beasts about a shilling per head on every young cattle and from(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
