- Long ago there was a man in Coolavota whom the priest cursed from the Altar during Mass. The altar candles were then taken off the altar and thrown away. The dogs would not go near the candles. After that, when any of the O Keeffe's were dying, dogs would be heard barking in the sky. In the time of the priest hunters the yeomen and magistrates were having a dinner at Bolster's near Kanturk. They were hunting a priest and news was brought to them that the priest was hiding in the vicinity.
