- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)and Seán Murphy, known as "Spud" were the pedlars that travelled around this district. They travelled from house to house carrying on their back, in a bag called the Hamper such articles as pins, needles, laces, buttons and thread, small articles which were required in every house. The women took hair-pins and some of the above articles from the pedlar, usually in exchange for bottles, rags or feathers. It was seldom money was given.
These pedlars used stay in the houses by night, and the people had great welcome for them. They spent the night round the fire storytelling and telling the news.
The old names for some of the coins were - A copper for a penny or half penny A tanner = sixpence. A bob = a shilling A quid = a pound.- Bailitheoir
