There was an iron tip all round the sole.Gura-perca boots
These boots were worn by the young people 40 or 50 years ago. The soles were made of Guta-perca - the juice of a tree growing in America.
It was a waxy stuff that would melt if put near the fire.
The people used sole their own boots. They used redden a piece of an iron hoop and melt off the guta-perca from an old pair of boots and put it on the ones that required soling.- Bailitheoir
