My granny Mrs Jane Clabby, of Ruskey aged 82 years told me how bread used to be made when she was young.
She said, the flour was made of wheat with a quirn John Clabby Cllonafill, Rooskey, told me he had two quirns.
She said this is the way she saw her mother making potatoes-bread. She boiled some big potatoes and when they were boiled, she peeled them and put them in a basin. Then she put some flour and a pinch of salt and mixed it up with a porringer. She made it into a cake, and cut it into four parts called farrells.
The pan was got ready and the cake was put on it. After some time she took it up and each one got a farrell.
This is the way she makes boiled boxty. She got some big potatoes and grated them. Then she put them in a cloth
