  2. Many people in olden times made many of the wants of the household at home such as the making of candles. Many people could make these, but an old man named Brian Keane who lived in the townland of Carrowmore, was a skilled person at this work. He could make two sorts of candles, rush candles and resin candles.
    The rush candles were made by peeling the green skin off the rush except one strip. Then grease is rendered and each rush is dipped in the grease. Then all the rushes
