  1. Local Poets
There are not many poets in my Locality at the present time. But I have heard of one man named Patrick Owens, who is noted for the beautiful poems and songs he composed. He lived in Cloonfad in the county Roscommon.
He was born in the year 1828. He died about the year 1883. He was not a very old man when he died. He was only about sixty years. The following poem is one which he wrote -:
    The Duck
    I
I have a duck as fine a bird,
    As ever could be found.
And many a big blue egg she laid,
    All Spring and Summer round.
But when the milk got plenty,
    My duck she strayed away,
Determined for to hatch the few,
    The creature had to lay.
