    II
In hopes that when next Spring arrived,
She might have three or four.
    To leave my table decent,
And lay the eggs go leor.
A search for her was made
    All through the country round,
The little children sought for her,
But she could not be found.
    III
At night as I lay dreaming
Those notions came into my head,
That some blaguard stole her away,
While I was in my bed.
Six months at last did pass away
    The meadows long did grow.
And convenient to John Dolan's house,
    A mower came to mow.
    IV
'T was upon that very day,
    My waddling bird she died.
While hatching on the eggs she laid,
He killed her with the scythe.
Go back unto my master's house,
And tell him of my fate
    And mind those half-hatched eggs,
And keep them in the heat.
