  1. Derreenasoo is a pretty townland situated on the bank of the Shannon where it is crossed by a stone bridge. Long ago there was only a wooden bridge and even still people speak of the "wooden bridge". This bridge is between Roscommon and Leitrim counties.
Dereenasoo or the wood of the strawberries is a flourishing townland it has but a few farmers' holdings and they are well tilled and looked after with good residences on each. Unlike the adjoining townland all dwelling houses are slated, the inhabitants are mostly Prostestants.

  2. This district is known as North Tumna for election purposes. It is situated by the Shannon near Battlebridge. It is said it got its name from the noise of the waterfall which is near hand. Tuaim or Fuaim means a noise and Ath = ford. There is a nice Protestant church called Tumna church convenient to Battlebridge and there is a nice grave yard beside it.
