  1. Hidden treasure is a very rare thing in this locality especially if it has been of any value or importance. But tradition informs us that such things as vessels or crocks of decayed butter known as Ferkins or cools, have been found in the mountain bogs during turf cutting operations. Other articles such as flint, lock, firearms, or muskets o guns, have been found; also old boxes, containing apparently the remains of decayed or rotten oatmeal, but for treasure trove in the way of money or even valuables of any kind, we have no tradition handed down to us of such things.
    Digging excavations have been carried out in a number of place in adjoining localities in the surrounding neighbourhood especially adjacent to, or in the centre of old forts supposed to be of Danish
