- A burial House
When a death occurs all in the townland stop working. The house is then called a burial house. The remains are waked for two nights. In olden times people went there for amusement. Younger people go there to spend the night. Relations and immediate neighbours sit till morning. Men when they are approaching the house stand at the outside door and say their prayers. Women sit in the corpse room. Men sit in the kitchen. The refreshments are tobacco, clay-pipes, snuff and tea to those who come a distance.
All clocks are stopped. The blinds are not drawn. The Rosary is recited at intervals.
