- Long years ago there lived a man
in the parish of Brosna whose name was M. Curtin : and this man was very much given to cards.
At that same time it was thought that some card players could “colour the cards” as they called it” which means that they could change the colour to match the game in progress.
So one night M. Curtin was at a certain house in the district when they were playing a quarter of beef on a certain number of games
M. Curtin thought some-how that the game was not a fair one. At any rate he won no part of the beef and lost all his pocket money.
As he was going home across the fields through the patway much disappointed he
came on to a hedge by the patway and there he saw a man sitting down with a horrible face and two cows legs under him. Now M. Curtin was a brave young lad and he did not run away from cow leg. He
found that he had a pack of(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
