- In the lane leading from my house there was supposed to be a ghost under a pipe. This ghost used to appear in the form of a black dog, and all the people in the neighbourhood were afraid to pass that way after dark for fear of the black dog.
One night Mickie Dolan and John Gallagher both of Drumrackin, Ballinamore, Co. Leitrim, were passing this way and they saw the dog, so they armed themselves with stones and on crossing the pipe Mickie threw one of them and hit the dog saying " go to hell where you came from" thinking it was an evil spirit, and he then fell to the ground. When he came to, they both went home, and the dog was never seen since.
The strangest thing about this dog was, that sometimes he used to appear in the form of a turkey-cock. But this was a real living dog, that used to follow his master that far every night when he used to be going down the road on his [?] and he used to wait there till he would be coming back.
It happened that on the night Mickie Dolan killed the dog, its owner whose name was Dan Harvey, Drumrackin, Ballinamore, Co. Leitrim on hearing that the dog was killed, summoned Mickie to the court and he was fined £2.- Bailitheoir
