Ar an leathanach seo

  1. Long ago the people were not as rich as they are now. When a new pair of shoes would be got in a house they would have to do six or seven and they would also be got in a large size so that they would last even though the childrens's feet grew.
    No one wore shoes either to the Chapel or elsewhere until they were fifteen or sixteen years. Rich people wore shoes when they were about ten years of age. Some old women only wore shoes to the Chapel and both in Winter and Summer they were to be seen around the house in the barefeet.
    They would have big knitted cloths that they would lie around their feet in the very cold weather called "Mairtens". These were made out of home spun yarn and would keep the feet hot. The children at present go in the bare feet because it is warm and they are glad to get off the shoes. Before this the people would carry their shoes in their hands until they would come near the Church and then put them
