About a mile and a half, east of Ballyshannon, lies Camelon Castle.

About a mile and a half, east of Ballyshannon lies Camelon Castle. It is said that the castle is haunted but despite this a man once under-took to sleep a night in it. He took a stout stick with him in case of danger.
During the night he was awakened by a strange noise. He looked around a saw a black-clad woman. In her hand she held a stick with which she attacked him. He defended himself with his own stick and also contrived to hit her with it. She disappeared suddenly, leaving the covered with cuts and bruises. The Man, who at once fled from the castle, said that her body felt like cotton-wool under the blows of his stick. The castle is now uninhabited.
