There is a lake about half a mile outside Ballyshannon called Lough Braghan.

There is a lake about half a mile outside Ballyshannon called Lough Braghan. The people in the neighbourhood and those who lived there once called it the lake of the “garters”. It is said that two Scottish soldiers were drowned there and that they were never found. Some person while down at the Lough found the soldiers garters and the Lough was called after the “Lough of the Garters.”
