    Fair. They were not welcome when they came because their horses destroyed the crops of the the people of the district. There does not come as many tinkers now as there used to come because the Garda have stopped them.

  2. The best-known traveller around Ballyshannon is a man called Bob Devit. His “territory” includes North Leitrim, South Donegal and South West Donegal. He makes his living by selling bottles of ink, flypaper, spoons, etc. which he keeps in a bag. Some people buy things off him especially the country people. The town people hardly ever buy things off him but they give him pennies. He sleeps in barns and buys most of his food but begs a little. It is said that he keeps ten-shilling notes
