  1. In the year 1847 there came a famine. The blight came for the first time on potatoes and the people did not know anything about blue-stone so the potato-crop failed.
    The people that time lived on potatoes so when they failed they had no other food instead.
    In the second year of the famine people were got dead in scores by the road-sides with the juice of green grass around their mouth. They used to eat grass like cattle to try to keep themselves alive.
