- At Ballinlough Cross-roads there is a Gallows tree. Some years ago a roadman placed his coat on its branches. Next morning he was found dead in bed. (L. Leavy, Shanco)
- Two brothers (blacksmiths) were rebels and were arrested and hanged on the ash-tree called the Hangman's Tree. There was an iron cross erected on the tree in memory of the two men. It broke and fell and a bit of it got stuck in the butt of the tree. It should be there yet.
(Mrs Gavagan, mheadhon-aosta, Cluain Miolaín)
