- The weather can be judged by the behaviour of certain birds. When swallows are flying low it is a sign of rain. Their food is flies and when there is rain coming the flies fly low. When the swallows fly high it is for the same reason and so it is a sign of good weather. When the curlew is calling it is a sign of rain. When the seagulls are inland it is a sign of a storm.
