- The people have a custom on Shrove Tuesday night. They make pan-cakes and fry bacon on that night. They do that, as it is an old custom on the eve of the lenten fast. They fast from bacon, for the seven weeks of lent after that.
The pan-cakes are made very thin on a pan. Late on that night, the people eat the pan-cakes, and tea, and bacon.- Collector
