  1. The fair of Mullagh is the local fair. It is held on the last Friday of every month, unless in December, when Christmas day falls on the last Friday It is held then the previous Friday. When you start in the morning, for the fair of Mullagh, you have to be in in it at nine o'clock or shortly after it.
    When drawing near the town, you will meet a man, he is called a blocker or a whacker. Coming up to you, he will ask who sells the calf? "I do." "how much do you want for him? They are down in price to-day." "£10." "Ha, ha, you do not want to sell." "I do, what will you give me?" "ha, ha, heis not worth the half of it. But as I know you to be a decent man I give you five pounds." "Well, if that is all, there will be no bargain." "Well to make a long story short, I will give you another pound." "good bye." He will walk ten or twelve steps, and then come back, and then he will tell you that, that calf is not
