  1. One girl sat down on the ground, and another girl knelt beside her, and put her head in her lap, and covered herself with the other one's pinafore. Then a number of girls held each other's hands, and they came in a row to see Jenny Joe, and they said these words when they came to see her.
    "I have come to see poor Jenny Joe, Jenny Joe, Jenny Joe. I have come to see Jenny Joe how is she now."
    The one who was sitting minding her said,
    "O Jenny Joe's washing, she's washing, she's washing
    O Jenny Joe's washing you can't see her now."
    The next time she said.
    O Jenny Joe's ironing, she's ironing, she's ironing. O Jenny Joe's ironing you can't see her now."
    The next time she said,
    "O Jenny Joe's dying, she's dying, she's dying. O Jenny Joe's dying you can't see her now."
    While they were kneeling Jenny Joe jumped up, and ran after them. The first one she
