  1. My home is in the parish of Mullagh, townland of Mullaghland in the County of Cavan.
There are about twenty families in the townland and about a hundred and fifty people.
The most common name in this district is O'Reilly.
About one half of the house are thacthed and the others slated.
There is a Village in the townland and the man that built the first house in it was named Mullen, and the townland went under the name of Mullagh.
There are four old people getting the pension and that is about all that are over seventy years of age. Not one of them can talk Irish and none of them call tell stories in either English or Irish.
Houses were more numerous in former times.
There are few houses now in ruins.
One ancient place on Mullagh Hill was owned long ago by the Sterling O'Reilly. They were the descendants of the great O'Reilly's, the Kings of Ulster. It is owned by a man named Mr Clinton, Mullagh House, Mullagh at present. There is a Marl hole just beside it and several times when scraws were being taken out of it to let the cattle see the water, and so save them from being drowned they took up with the drags, pikes and spears and other stuff that was used in the Rebellion in Ireland of 1798.
The land is very hilly and boggy and most of it is very poor.
There is one lake called Mullagh lake about half a mile outside
