- In the year 1789 a priest used to say Mass in the townland of Bective in a place called Balreask.
- There are not many traces of the Penal Days in this district, but there is a little hill called "Cnoc An Phobail" in the neighbourhood of Steen's, Castle Odder, Kilmessan. The hillock is about three fields to the back of the house. The priest used to day Mass on the hill and many people would attend it, and this is how the Hill gained its name.(continues on next page)
