“When people were getting married long ago there was not as much ceremony about the marriage as there is nowadays.”
(continued from previous page)the party goes to the boy's house where another reception is held.
- The bridegroom and his friends are invited to the brides house to partake of some dinner which is called "The picking of the gander". They dance and play until morning. They have the best of music and singing. They sing the grand old songs of long ago. The also appoint the wedding day and finish up the matchmaking. The hauling home means the people coming home from the church to the bridegrooms house. Then they have the wedding breakfast. The dance all day and night. At night the straw boys come, the house is cleared for them. They dance a set and go out again. Next day they leave the house and go to spend the "honeymoon" away for about a month. They used to get married at home long ago. Also they tie old shoes to the car for luck in which they are in.
