  1. The Franciscans once lived in Lady's Abbey, but when Cromwell plundered Ireland, they were turned away and their monastery burned. A good part of the old church still remains. Afterwards there was an Order of the Nuns there, but they too were turned out of it. There is a very old graveyard adjoining the church, where many persons from Ardfinnan and the district are buried there, and there are some persons buried in the old church ruin.
