  1. There is a holy well in the parish of Borris-in-Ossary. It is called Mary's well. On certain days of the year a collection is made to keep it in order. It is (y) very near a big oak tree in the middle of a field. There is a story connected with it. During the Penal Times the Rosary was said around the well. Mass was said there also. One sunday they were surprised, while saying the Rosary by the English soldiers. Only a few escaped. The soldiers then covered in the well. It then ceased to be the mass place of the district. One day a man saw water gushing from the trunk. The priest was told. Ever after that Mass was said there. Water still flows from the trunk.
