  1. "Jer Jrant was an noted highwayman belonging to this parish. About a century ago he was born near the village of moyne, and was educated in moyne school. He robbed from the rich and gave it to the poor. It is that when the poor tenants would have paid their rents, to the Landlords, Grant would rob them and return the money to the tenants again. Several times he tried to give up the life of a highwayman, but he was always induced by his companion to continue. For some time he robbed with a man named - Caroll - Phelan - a Kildare man - as a companion. Once Grant stole a side-car and a horse and went to Dungarvan, and earned a haul of money driving visitors around the city and was never recognised. His companions met him one day, and threatened to "give him away", if he would not join them, and so he had to do so. He was travelling through the country one day and he
