    Come on you loyal and brave comrades
    And listen to my song,
    It's of a mournful circumstance,
    I won't detain you long ;
    It's concerning a dine old horse ,
    About twenty three or four ,
    That retired from work and labour
    In the parish of Loughmore.
    This nag been twenty three years old
    And feeble was his frame;
    He was let out to pick about
    Some strength for to regain.
    But quickly he deserted
    And came to this district round
    To help the one horse farmers
    To plough and till their ground
