    board and make a cross with them. Then they get a turnip and they take the skin off it. They make a face on one side of the turnip and then they stick it on top of the cross as a head. They then get an old coat and they put it on the cross. They stuff straw inside the coat to fill it out and they put an old hat on the Stocach’s head.
    Long ago boys used to dress up in straw and go to some house where a pair would be married. Sometimes they got money and more times they got porter. That custom has now died out.
