  1. It is the custom that on St Brigid's day two or more girls go out collecting money from house to house and with them they carry a doll known as Biddy. Mostly on Shrove people get married just before lent comes. Old bachelors that never got married used be chalked all over with chalk but this custom has died out for many years. On May Morning the young girls used go out and wash their faces in the dew them good looking and also they used look for a snail and if they got any they were to be married within
