  1. By putting wool of a black sheep in your ear it would cure the pain. The food left over by a ferret would cure the whooping cough. The froth out of an ash stick when put into the fire and taken out when hot and put into the ear as hot as the sufferer could bear it, this was supposed to cure the pain in the ear.
