  1. Local fairs are held in Ballinhassig twice every year on the 1st May and the 29th June. Fairs are also held in Kinsale, in Bandon, in Carrigaline, and in Innishannon. Sometimes buyers come to the farmer's houses to buy cattle. A fair was formerly held in Ballinhassig on August 10th each year, but it is not held now because the supply of cattle is scarce. The fair in Ballinhassig is held in the Fair-field. Tolls were formerly paid to Mr Warner and Mr O'Donovan at Ballinhassig for each animal sold. A penny was paid for each sheep and lamb, and sixpence for each cow. Luck money is given by the seller to the buyers. When cattle are bought they are marked by a scissors or with redal.
