  1. There were many famous runners in Ireland long ago, and there are many there today also. John Corcoran, who lived at Manch, Ballineen, was a famous runner. He won many championships, and he had medals and silver objects. He won a five mile championship in Cork in 1924.
    He was a member of the Iona Athletic Club. He won a five mile cross country race in England. He emigrated to America in 1926, and he still holds a job there, training runners.
