  1. Situated near our school is the historic ruin of Ballinacarriga Castle. It is built on a rocky height overlooking Ballinacarriga Lake. Its height is estimated to be eighty feet. The entrance is in the eastern side and there is a spiral and muchworn stone staircase ascending to the upper storey, known as the "Green Field".
    There are two large windows in this storey, one facing north and one facing south. There are strange markings one these windows including some of the Stations of the Cross and the letters R.M. and C.C. These are supposed to be the initials of Randal Muirtille the builder of the Castle and his wife Catherine Collins. There is another short stone stairs ascending to the top or cross walls. These walls are about a yard and a half wide and visitors to the castle often walk along them as the view is excellent.
