    Oh, vanished years when I was young
    And o'er my heart there hung no sorrow,
    When truth seemed throned on every tongue
    And life laughed brighter with each morrow.
    No hours came back so full of light.
    And childhood's hope and trust [?],
    As those when robed in surplice white,
    I answered mass for Father Brennan.

    He was the Pastor, kind and old,
    Of our dear little Mountrath Parish,
    A sheperd, true to the Master's fold
