  1. When my father was young about fifty years ago, on winter nights the old people used to tell stories in order to keep the youngsters all in out of the dark.
He remembered his Grand-Mother telling a story about Jack o' Lantern. He was supposed to be a fairy that carried a red light at night from 11 o'clock to 1. He used always keep to the fields and anyone who saw the light were kept out until dawn.
Many an old man he heard say was led astray and kept walking all night.
