“When the pier was being built about fifty years ago, at Inniscrone, they used to set a charge of dynamite and light a fuse, and take good care to get clear away to a distance before the explosion went off.”

The man came back, the tide came in, and the charge never went off. It was the only charge that missed all that season.
The old ladies must have said their prayers that morning!
- About the year 1891 a whale came in, or was washed in at Enniscrone.
It was first seen out in the Bay, and it seemed like a sail of a boat. Apparently, the animal was on its side, and it was a large fin that was seen.
After a time it was washed in on the strand, and after some time it died. They said it was only a herring-whale. It was over 30 ft. long, and correspondingly broad and high. It seemed to be the height of a nice stack of turf to the young people who used to visit it on the way(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile) - Faisnéiseoir
