  1. (2) In olden times the people bought a pound of resin to make resin candles. After boiling the resin in a pot until it was a liquid straw was dipped in it on which some of the resin had caught when pulled out. This formed a candle used mostly in byres.

  2. (3) The rush candle was made by dipping a peeled rush in melted butter. This candle was used mostly in the house.
