    On St. Brigid's night long ago people used to make a cross of straw and they used to put it up in the roof of the house inside and it was called "St. Brigid's Cross". They used to also hang up a grain of oats and a potato and when they were going out to sow the oats they used to shake that grain of oats first and when they were sowing the potatoes that potato was the first to be sown. This cross was made by some person of the house.
