1. Cratloe's Hills and Woods (ar lean)

   on Cratloe's wooded heights and passed away in the midst of his sorrowing army. He was buried where he died and now the people of the locality in Ballycannon on the hills overheed the Longpavement Railway Station point out a large stone under which lie the remains of this unfortunate King. It used to be known to the older generation as Knoc Righ Crimthann, that is King Crimthann's Hill.
   Speaking of the Cratloe Hills brings to mind two other peaks one of which I have already mentioned as a townland takes its name from it. I refer to Gallows Hill. The other is known to the inhabitants of this locality as Cruach a' Bhannaille, that is to say, Barrel Hill. Opinion is divided as to how it got its name; some maintain that is is on account of its shape, but it is difficult to see how it bears any resemblance to a barrel. Others have it that in ages long gone the warlike and cruel natives, when engaging in attacks on their enemies, brought there prisoners to this spot, put them into casks or barrels studded with long spikes and amused themselves by rolling the barrels down the steep incline. If this be true it was no doubt an exquisite form of torture.
   A rather unusual feature of Barrel Hill is that, right on the summit you have a well in the middle of a pile of flags. The water is delightfully
